Ministry of Public Health granted the clean toilet sign conforming with the HAS Standard to Suvarnabhumi Airport.

     Ministry of Public Healthgranted the clean toilet sign conforming with the HAS standard to Suvarnabhumi Airport, in order to make a good image of Thailand visible to the international eyesight.

     Today (August 15, 2012) Doctor Surawit Khonsomboon, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Public Health disclosed after presiding over the granting ceremony of the clean toilet sign conforming with the HAS Standard at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Smutprakarn province, that the Ministry of Public Health has proceeded with the development of the public toilets of the country to conform with the HAS Standard, namely Health, Accessibility and Safety, since 2005 to the present,in order to drive the development of the public toilets to meet the standard. Together with the network parties both the public and private sector, the ministry has succeeded the drive so that now 55.47% public toilets has passed the HAS Standard.

     Doctor Surawit added that the results of a survey from 1,000 people in Bangkok and its vicinity in 2010 revealed that the factor of choosing to use a public toilet is the cleanness at the rate of 86.3% conforming with the need of the people wishing to have the public toilets be improved mostly in regard the smelland cleanness at the rate of 76.5%. Thus the Ministry of Public Health by the Department of Health has then cooperated with network partners both the public and private sector to develop and to improve 12 types of public toilet in various places, where people mostly needed to use, such as official places, schools, hospitals, religious places, fresh-food markets, food shops, tourist places, public parks, department stores or shopping centers, gas stations, public toilets along the roads and in the land and air transport stations. Recently the Ministry of Public Health has awarded the topmost toilet prize of the year 2011 to 22 places.

     The Deputy Minister of Public Health concluded that the results of the past performance has been archived by the cooperation of every part of the toilet development and improvement network parties, which have helped push until the targeted success was reached, such as oil trading companies, smiling park club, toilet lovers club, Thai restaurants association, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Office of the Basic Education Commission, Office of the Vocational Education Commission, State Railways of Thailand and Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT). AOT has 5 airports under its responsibility, namely Don Mueang Airport, Chiang Mai Airport, Mae Fah Luang – Chiang Rai International Airport, Hat Yai Airport and Phuket Airport, which have an AOT’s standard in providing toilet service and give precedence to the service in accordance with the HAS Standard of the Department of Health.

     Mr. Somchai Sawasdeepon, Director of Suvarnabhumi Airport, Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) said that Suvarnabhumi Airport has with the aim at being selected as World’s Best Airport of Airport Service Quality or ACI has, therefore, improved the service in every aspect and developed the toilet service, to which AOT gives very much precedence, since according to the satisfaction survey of the service users it was found that the toilet is the important factor for the satisfaction of the passengers. Therefore, Suvarnabhumi Airport has then arranged the continuous development and improvement of both the adequacy of the number of the toilets, which there are now 1,498 toilets, and the construction of toilets for general users of all types, such as men toilets, women toilets, toilets for handicapped, toilets for the elderly, areas for women with new-born baby, and taking care of cleaning service throughout 24 hours with stationed staff, as well as using standard and sanitary wears for efficiently use,arranging good atmosphere in both light, color and odor as well as decoration with beautiful trees for refreshing in accordance with the international standards.

     Mr. Somchai said that in each year Suvarnabhumi Airport has more than 48 million inbound and outbound tourists. That Suvarnabhumi Airport provides standard toilets it could enhance the good image for the nation.In particularly today the Ministry of Public Health has granted the clean toilet sign conforming with HAS Standard, it will reinforce the better image for the country and Suvarnabhumi Airport has the aim at being awarded the prize “Toilet of the Year 2012” from the Ministry of Public Health in the category of air transport, that will be announced in the beginning of the next year.

     Mr. Somchai added that giving precedence to the toilet service of Suvarnabhumi Airport is not focusing on the Suvarnabhumi Airport only, but also on the other 5 airports under the responsibility of AOT, namely Don Mueang Airport, Mae Fah Luang – Chiang Rai International Airport, Chiang Mai Airport, Hat Yai Airport and Phuket Airport as well, since every mentioned airports are international airports, where millions of passengers are passing in and out. That will create an image for the Suvarnabhumi Airport and Thailand very well.
