| AOT is confident in the safety of the runway at Suvarnabhumi Airport |

Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) confirmed that the western runway at Suvarnabhumi Airport can be used normally after temporarily closed for repair on the last July 5, 2012.
Flying Officer Anirut Thanomkulbutra, President of Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) said that during the period from 20.30 to 21.20 pm. of July 5, 2012 AOT has temporarily closed down the western runway at Suvarnabhumi Airport to repair for about 50 minutes, during which the shutdown has caused some flights to divert to other reserved airports namely Don Muaeng Airport, U-Tapao Airport, Chinag Mai International Airport, totaling 11 flights. Now the runway of Suvarnabhumi Airport can serve normally according to the standard safety.
The reason of the temporarily shutdown of the said western runway was because of the staff has inspected and found the runway surface was damaged through the disintegration on the beginning of the western runway R 19 but it was not sunk or subsided and our staff has then repaired them by paving the surface with the asphalt on the damaged area. It took about 50 minutes. The damage was caused by the disintegration of the runway surface. Typically, Suvarnabhumi Airport has the responsibility to inspect the runway surface and the taxiway 2 times daily, so that both runway and taxiway can be used safely. If it is found that the runway surface is damaged, it will be fixed immediately and AOT is prepared in various fields namely staff, materials machinery and equipment at the west side fire station being able to carry out the repair immediately in case of emergency through 24 hours. So when the damage of the western runway surface was found this time, AOT has taken an immediate action and completed the repair within a short period, sot that the runway was reopened for the utilization normally at the later time. The shutdown of the runway for repairing was in close coordination with the Aeronautical Radio Of Thailand Ltd (AEROTHAI).
Flying Officer Anirut added that the staff was emphasized to work during the shutdown phase very vigorously for the safety in serving the flights and passengers in accordance with the safety standard. As far as the performance of the renovation of the eastern runway on the north side is concerned the work was done by 42% in overall and now it is in the stage of the surface layer construction. When the renovation phase 1 is completed on 18th July 2012, AOT will return some repaired areas and the eastern runway can be additionally used up to 3,000 meters, so that every type of aircrafts (except A 380) can take off and land. All the works of the renovation of the eastern runway on the north side shall be fully completed on 2nd August 2012 and the eastern runway can then be fully utilized.
